The inn's history
1830 - Construction of the access road
The winding road to the village was built in 1830. With 30 hairpin bends, it provides spectacular access to the hamlet perched at an altitude of 1160 meters.

1852 - Merger with Lavey
The village of Morcles, in the Swiss canton of Vaud, has a rich and fascinating history. Its toponym dates back to the Celtic root “Morg”, meaning “pure”, in reference to the limpidity of the water that flows through it. Due to management difficulties, Morcles merged with Lavey in 1852 to form the commune of Lavey-Morcles.

1909 - inauguration of a school
On October 2, 1909, the Auberge de Morcles opened its doors, but first as a school for up to 50 pupils. When it opened, the school had no bell tower, and a simple bell was used to call the children to class.

1926 - Installation of bell tower and clock
After the first bell tower burned down, a new one was installed in 1926, complete with a clock, enabling residents to better organize their daily lives.

1972 - School closed and converted into an inn
After more than 60 years in existence, the school closed its doors in 1972. The attic of the building was then transformed into a place of worship for the Reformed Church of the Canton of Vaud, and was also used by soldiers from the Dailly fort. When the school closed, the building was converted into a communal inn. The commune retained ownership and entrusted its operation to successive tenants until 2019. The inn becomes a place of welcome for visitors and hikers.

2002 - Abandonment of worship space
The worship space was abandoned in 2002, contributing to a certain loss of use for the building.

2019 - End of communal operation of the inn
The commune ceases to run the inn, marking the end of an era of public management of the site.

End of 2023 - Repurchase and renovation
A heritage lover bought the inn and undertook a complete renovation, giving the place a new lease of life while preserving its history and heritage.

Today - A must for hikers
L’Auberge de Morcles is a popular meeting point for mountain enthusiasts. Offering breathtaking views of the Trient massif, it now welcomes visitors in search of nature and relaxation.
Morcles, a village in the heart of nature
Morcles is also a starting point for numerous hikes to the Muverans, Dents de Morcles, Ovronnaz and Deborence. In winter, a ski lift at Les Martineaux offers downhill skiing when conditions permit.
A preserved heritage
Despite the changes and transformations that Morcles has undergone, the Auberge remains a symbol of the local heritage, combining history, nature and conviviality, and is reborn today with renewed ambition.
